The Orange Treehouse

My workmates and I took an afternoon out to eat and just catch up and we chose to head to the Orange Treehouse, located along Twin Palm road in Kabulonga. This British pub-inspired spot was a great space to get some air but still be sheltered from the onset of the rain season. They also have an outdoor play area for the kids so, you could bring them along for a bite.

Their menu seemed much ‘simpler’ than I remember but I was glad to see that they now serve breakfast with a complimentary cup of tea or coffee. The menu has small plates which are food options portioned for a quick bite and sharing options for those that want to chew a bit more.

My workmates ordered smoked pork ribs, rump steak served with flambeed green peppercorn sauce, and rotisserie chicken served with a lemony peri-peri dipping sauce. A few ordered some cheesecake too. I ordered the grill board which had rump steak, smoked ribs, chicken wings, chicken popcorn, onion rings, chips, dough balls and salad to share with one of my other colleagues. The menu indicates that the platter was intended to feed four people but the two of us were prepared to handle it.

The food took much longer than we hoped which was rather off but we used the time to catch up on ‘current affairs’. The food was worth the wait and thankfully all served in one sitting. Shout out to our waiter, Joseph, for being attentive and helpful in this regard.

The various meats on our platter were lightly seasoned to get the taste buds going but I was relieved that they served them with three sauces; a barbeque, a peri-peri and a blue cheese inspired sauce, which complimented the different meats. It would have gone south if this accompaniment was not there. The dough balls were served Italian style with a cheesy herbed centre and the chicken popcorn was quite a hit too. Our platter was quite enjoyable, plus, the portion size of the other accompaniments was pretty decent. The rest of the team did not have any complaints about their food.

There was a mix-up with the accompaniments for one of the orders but the Orange Treehouse was kind enough to make up for it with a complimentary beverage and portion of fries for the inconvenience. However, I find it necessary that the Orange Treehouse team looks into the challenge with poor water supply in their restrooms as hygiene aspects would eventually be a cause of concern, not only for guests for staff too.
