Kwisoko Game Ranch

Located in the outskirts of Lusaka on Chifwema Road, off Leopards Hill Road, lies Kwisoko, a game ranch that offers an excursion from the bustle of the big city. Established in 2002, Kwisoko is the brainchild of the Mwanakatwe’s and the name Kwisoko is actually from the village of Isoko in the Mbala District of the Northern Province Zambia, where the Mwanakatwe clan have their roots.

Getting to Kwisoko was such a breeze, I loved that the road was tarred all the way to the entrance of the facility and the road from the entrance to the facility is gravel and still passable. Kwisoko offers recreational fishing from their fish pond and they have amenities for a leisurely swim and outdoor barbecue. They also offer quad bike drives and drives around the property to view their game which include giraffe, buffalo, zebra, eland, sable, waterbuck, impala, Kafue lechwe, spotted Indian deer, bushbuck, reedbuck, etc.

I got to experience the game drive and quad bikes and even grabbed a bite to eat from the restaurant. The game drive was simple, I guess I needed to manage my expectations as it was not as immersive as I thought it would be. However, we managed to see the buffalo, sable, spotted Indian deer, impala and zebra. I was rather underwhelmed by the quality of the food and service we received from the restaurant. However, they were courteous enough to apologise as I later learned they did not have a full staff compliment at the time.

The highlight of the experience was the quad biking. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience but it felt rather short as it was relatively over in under 5 mins, perhaps it was because I was driving with such a thrill 😋. The local guide informed me that there is a +10Km service which costs more than the 2.5km ride we paid for. Kwisoko also has three air conditioned, self-contained tents which are on raised platforms and en-suite for guests that want to sleep over and get some great views of the woodland sunsets in the horizon.

I cautiously recommend Kwisoko to anyone that’s looking for a spot to get a bit of peace and quiet in ranch environment and some great views of the woodland area. The ranch would be ideal for team events, get-togethers and retreats too.
