Calling all smoked-meat lovers!
Marketed as one of Zambia’s No 1 Smoke House, PJ’s is located in the Woodlands/Nyumba Yanga shopping area of Lusaka. This spot does not provide the bells and whistles of a fine dinning experience but they sure do deliver on their speciality – all things smokin’. PJ’s keeps the music grooving and I am pretty suspicious that placing the smoking barrels right in front of the eatery is meant to give your eyes a tease of what would be served.

Their menu has a variety of meat based platters (beef, goat, chicken, fish, pork) which are all smoked and served with sides of French fries, green salad and an assortment of beverages. For those that enjoy eating their meats with something heavier than a salad and fries, there is another eatery in the vicinity that serves nshima and greens. PJ’s was pretty flexible, they allowed us to enjoy additional food and beverages purchased from surrounding establishments.
Glancing at the other diners meals made me pretty expectant of the healthy-sized food portions. I went out to chew with friends and we ordered a chicken platter that easily stuffed all four of us for only ZMK 250. I particularly enjoyed their tender brisket and sausages but the other meats were not as well seasoned as I hoped, but then again, that is how smoked meats are supposed to be prepared right? I recommend you carry your own condiments if you want that extra punch of seasoning.
