For over a decade, this Zambian impressionist and abstract artist has used his canvas not just to create—but to confront societal issues that are close to his heart. In his recent exhibition, Dennis Jere’s art draws its influence from water—not in pigment, but from the pain for what he feels is a fundamental right that many communities across Zambia seldom enjoy conveniently. We Are Tired is more than just an exhibition, it is Dennis’ reckoning and outcry.
Through layered textures and unapologetic splashes of paint over different subjects, Jere gives form to a quiet scream— lending his voice to the hardship, endurance and invisible weight of the many people who face hardship to access clean, safe water. With children trading classrooms for water queues, women navigating landscapes with hope and buckets, cholera’s shadow and even depictions of urban housing, each piece holds a reality that Dennis has encountered or observed.
His work is an invitation—not to just observe, but to remember, to question and, most of all, to act on making access to water a reality for communities all around the country and indeed the continent. You can experience the exhibition at the Lechwe Gallery during their working hours, before 20th July 2025.
