In his debut exhibition, Emmanuel Siatwinda vibrantly celebrates the dynamic nature of women across various social settings. While the exhibition also has some other pieces, notably a striking visual of a man deeply contemplating, the dominant theme of ‘God Bless the Women’ honours the many roles that women play.

From what I gather, this exhibition befittingly pays tribute to Emmanuel’s Grandmother, who in her own way wore many of the illustrated hats while instilling choice values in his life’s journey. As someone who also shares a similar bond with my maternal grandmother, Emmanuel’s work resonated with me in so many ways and I was filled with such gratitude and appreciation for his fine work.

Winner of the Best Young Artist Category at the 2023 Ngoma Awards, Emmanuel has come a long way from his roots in Kabwe and I look forward to experience how he evolves as an artist. Go and experience this visual ode to Lucky Dube’s reggae anthem, ‘God Bless The Women’ at the Alliance Française, Total Energies Art Gallery in Lusaka, until 8th June 2024.
