Eden Haus

Eden Haus is located in the Kabulonga suburb of Lusaka and it has had quite a buzz since it opened toward the end of 2020. It is marketed to combine international standards of food with exceptional cocktails which can be enjoyed in the indoor lounge, the outdoor pergola, in the garden or beside the pool area. The menu has a minimal mix of carefully selected options that caters to most tastes.

I ordered the buffalo chicken tacos and then we later ordered the Chicken grilled schnitzel with French fries and mushroom sauce, the Fillet steak with fried rice and the T-Bone with mash potatoes. We veered off into the cocktail menu and also sampled a few treats to ensure we had a well rounded ‘Eden’ experience.

The tacos were actually nice and they got my taste buds prepped for the main meal. If you order the tacos, I recommend that they serve the buffalo sauce separately as it has a zing to it which could be too much for some. All the other meal options were well presented and appealing to the eye. The plating and portion sizes were minimalist, which fits into the fine dining mantra Eden is going for. The chicken was fresh, the accompanying sauce was creamy and it had real mushrooms in it.

However, the T-bone, Fillet, mash and accompanying sauces lacked flavour and I would definitely steer clear of the fried rice as it was not enjoyable. It was hard to understand how these options looked so good but lacked flavour to seal the deal. We ended up ordering a sandwich for a guest that joined us later but it too was rather ordinary.

Eden Haus ticks the boxes where food presentation and plating is concerned. I definitely recommend it as a place for sundowners; a breather with friends or a brunch date but, I think the taste of the food has to count too. Most of our food was not adequately seasoned or tasty, I wonder if that is why the printed menu’s have a disclaimer?
