From their choice of music to their menu, Sauce Grill is a pretty hip and youthful spot in Lusaka’s woodlands area that caters largely to young adults and millennial’s alike. Sauce has straightforward beverage choices and food options with a twist; burgers, hoagie and glazed pork, beef and smoked ribs from their grill options and accompanying sides and salads. I especially liked that they had cowboy caviar (loaded beans, avocado, tossed in Chimchuri dressing) and sweet potato fries as sides, they are not the usual sides you would find around the Lusaka foodie circuit.
I chose their blue burger which promised to be pure gourmet goodness of prime beef patty glazed with Jameson whiskey stacked with mature white cheddar, rocket, Guinness caramelised onions, blue cheese sprinkled in a fresh bun. My buddy decided to have a steak which retails for under ZMK 60. The actual visual of my blue burger was more slider than it was burger, but to my delightful surprise it was rolling out punches of flavour! Perhaps it was that glazing and boozy caramelising or maybe it was the great mesh of ingredients, this blue burger was bomb! The steak was pretty tender and well seasoned, much to our enjoyment.
I suppose in this instance, too much of a good thing may have been a bad idea. Sauce Grill has kept things simple, plus the design of their space and general service is a good compliment to the youthful vibe and food. They are on to something!
💡 I look forward to see Sauce Grill evolve and include more burgers and non-traditional beverage / meal options with possible choices for sweet toothed foodies.
