Diggin’ Majuju

This artsy boutique cafe at the Twin Palm mall, in Lusaka’s Avondale area guaranteed to have food that tastes like home and it sure didn’t disappoint. Majuju Cafe was much smaller than I anticipated after peeping at their Instagram page but it was so warm and cosy. Majuju have managed to be minimalist but fully utilise the space to please the senses and get you relaxed enough to dig into the wholesome menu.

Speaking of the Majuju menu, it was super simple with unusual yet inviting options that left us undecided. With options like the wild one (black rice, pomegranate seeds, herbs drizzled with orange reduction), chicken schnitzel with orange and cucumber salad and their gourmet sandwiches, it was clear to see that they have such a great blend of in-season food and I was impressed. We eventually resolved to try their quarantine combo which had two burgers, two portions of fries, onion rings and a choice of short ribs or wings. We ordered the oozie and crispy chicken burgers so we could try both of them and they were outta short ribs so we settled for the wings.

The food was pretty flavourful and fresh and I loved how the portion size was large enough to get me stuffed for some day dreamin’ on a Sunday afternoon. The crispy chicken burger was especially enjoyable for me as I loved the crunch from the chicken and veggies nestled on the fresh bun. In addition, their freshly made lemonade was a sure winner as it got me salivating for the food and made me wanna go turn my own lemons into ice-cold zing! Our chewing experience went well enough for it to remind us of home, so I’m pretty sure Majuju achieved their goal.
